Understructure

The project was conceived by a team of an architect and a designer who look for alternative ways of designing and producing of design items. It explores the realm of architecture and design, which is hidden from the view, namely the construction process and the found objects that were originally used for its facilitation. These objects are in line with the ideas of clean optimized design and are free from added decorative elements. Is it possible to extend their life? Will the way they are produced become a new approach for manufacturing? Can one apply it in the cases of mass production? What should be the criteria of their evaluation? Perhaps, the amount of CO2 which will be eliminated during the production process, manual work, author’s background, the origin and history of the product? How can we scale this technique and extend it to the other areas? What are the other platforms that can use similar methods? Research illustrates connections that are reflected in these objects, namely the history of a place they were created for, typological study of the products, design-projects that are realized by the construction workers and their interviews. It also includes physical exposition of the ready-made and newly created designs.
